About us

COBRA Defense South Africa
Founded in 2002 by Chris Sutton, a former United States Police & Corrections Officer, C.O.B.R.A.™ Self-Defense was initially created to bridge the gap between traditional martial arts and real-world self-defense training. Built on law enforcement experience and proven threat‑response principles, C.O.B.R.A. quickly grew into a globally recognized program for reality based self-defense training.

In 2014, C.O.B.R.A. was introduced to South Africa by Leon Myburgh, a seasoned protective services and safety risk management expert. The training has since been tailored to meet the unique challenges of the South African corporate and community environments.

Today, C.O.B.R.A. Defense South Africa specializes in delivering reality training to companies through training that integrates key principles of reality-based self-defense tactics, occupational health & safety, risk management, protective services, and crisis management into a structured, risk‑based personal protection system.

Our mission is simple: to empower employees and organizations with the skills to detect danger early, make decisive choices under pressure, de‑escalate conflict when possible, and defend effectively when necessary. C.O.B.R.A. Defense South Africa stands as a premium provider of reality‑based self‑defense and corporate risk management training - equipping employees not just with techniques, but with the confidence and capability to respond to human threats in the real world.
