Jhpiego employees often work in remote areas where they are exposed to all sorts of personal safety risks including hijackings, abductions, physical assault and so forth. Because Jpiego management value their employees they recently contracted the global leader in reality based self-defense training C.O.B.R.A. Self-Defense Systems to provide training to their employees on how to realistically protect themselves in the event of an attack.
Training was conducted by C.O.B.R.A. Self Defense South Africa Regional Director, Leon Myburgh. Teams were trained in Cape Town, Ladysmith, Pietermaritzburg, Richards Bay, Port Shepstone and Durban. Training included the following topics:
- Psychology of Self-Defense
- How criminals think & select their victims
- Pre-attack indicators and how to recognize them
- The 4 types of attackers and how to deal with each
- Improvised weapons
- Basic striking and defense against strikes
- How to deal with an active assailant situation
- How to deal with an abduction and hijack situation
