Gender Based Violence is a term that refers to violence diected by men against women. The organizers of the Mr. Central South Africa event made it their mission to empower the women of Central South Africa to stand up against the abuse of women. The Mr. Central South Africa Pageant is not just a mere beauty and glamour competition. This male pageant is the first of its kind, aimed at creating awareness of and eradicating the ongoing violence and abuse against women and children in our nation.

Break the Fear Self Defense Workshop
Violence against women is a very complicated matter to resolve. Many people feel that stricter laws with harsher punishment for offenders will resolve the problem. Others propose changes to the education system to sensitize men about the problem. The reality is that untill a proper solution is found, women arre exposed to this terrible crime. Even if laws are changed and offenders face more severe penalties, the reality is that these measures are reactive. The crime already happened. It is thus essential that women be empowered with reality based self defense skills that will equip them with the knowledge and skills to deal with violence directed towards them.
It is for this reason that C.O.B.R.A. Self-Defense South Africa partnered with Mr Central South Africa to empower ladies in South Africa with real effective self defense knowledge and practical skills. The partnership launched with the presentation of the very first ever “Break the Fear Self-Defense Workshop” hosted by Mr Central South Africa at the Medical Faculty of the University of the Free State.
Training women to deal with gender based violence requires specialist training
Leon Myburgh, Regional Director of C.O.B.R.A. Self-Defense in South Africa said that learning how to protect yourself is not only about learning physical techniques but it is actually more about understanding how victims are selected, how to identify the pre-attack indicators and how to respond correctly to the threat. C.O.B.R.A. self-defense do not believe in teaching complicated skills but rather highly effective skills designed to be remembered under duress and that re highly effective to stop attackers irrespective of the victim’s size or physical abilities. C.O.B.R.A. offers a variety of training options for women ranging all the way from awareness seminars to practical training courses. Training is even available online through the C.O.B.R.A. Online Self-Defense College.
